Welcome to Year 4.
We would like to extend to you a very warm welcome to Year 4. We know being in school will look and feel a bit different this academic year but we are working hard to make sure the classroom will continue to be a caring and inviting learning environment for the children to thrive in.
Mrs Peachey will be teaching the children Mon-Wed and Mrs Burch Thur-Fri. Our class TA is Mr Hayward, who will be in class Mon, Tue, Thur and Fri mornings. Homework will be given out on a Friday by Mrs Burch. The children will need to wear their PE kits into school every Monday and Friday.
This year we are starting a new way of planning our topic lessons with three new main focuses: Protecting Planet Earth (Terms 1&2), Peace and Conflict (Terms 3&4) and Inspiring Minds (Terms 5&6).
We will be reading lots of great books this year including: The Black Dog, The Firework Maker’s Daughter and Krindlekrax. These books will be the basis for our writing. We are focusing closely on spelling and grammar in the children’s writing this year as we have identified this as an area for catch up from Year 3. This means we need your support at home regularly going on the Spelling Bee website to practise the weekly spellings.
In maths, our initial work will be around place value. Later in the term we will turn our attention to shape and calculation work. The children will be practising their timetables daily using Times Table Rock Stars. Pleas encourage your child to play on this at home. They are very welcome to challenge us to a battle! On the homework sheet, which will be sent home on Fridays, we will inform you of our times table focus for that week.
We look forward to a busy yet exciting year ahead!
Mrs Peachey and Mrs Burch
