Welcome to Year 4
We would like to extend to you a very warm welcome to Year 4. We are very excited to welcome the children into our classroom where we have been able to lift many of the restrictions, whilst endeavouring to make the children feel safe, happy and ready to learn!
Mrs Peachey will be teaching the children Monday -Wednesday and Mrs Burch Thursday – Friday. Our class TA is Mrs Newey who will be in class every morning and three afternoons. Spelling homework will be set on a Friday by Mrs Burch, and will be accessible on Google Classroom. The children will need to wear their PE kits into school every Monday and Friday.
This year we are continuing our curriculum focus with three new main topics: Global Neighbours (Terms 1&2), Mysteries (Terms 3&4) and Fascinate (Terms 5&6).
We will be reading lots of great books this year including: The Black Dog, The Firework Maker’s Daughter and Rumblestar, the latter of which inspired great interest amongst the children last year, many of whom went onto read the other books in the series! These books will be the basis for our writing. We will continue to focus closely on any spelling and grammar identified as an area for catch up from Year 3. This means we need your support at home by regularly going on the Spelling Shed website to practise the weekly spellings.
In maths, our initial work will be around place value. Later in the year, we will turn our attention to calculation, shape, measurement and statistics work. The children will be practising their timetables daily using Times Table Rock Stars. Please encourage your child to play on this at home. They are very welcome to challenge us to a battle! The times table focus for that week will also be on Google Classroom.
We look forward to a busy yet exciting year ahead!
