Welcome to Year 1
Welcome to Year 1! Thank you to all of the children and parents for making me feel so welcome already. We have a lovely year lined up and it should be extremely fun. We will be exploring many exciting topics and will relish our new outside area with laughter and smiles. I am so excited to be part of your child’s education especially in KS1.
Mr Smith will be teaching all week apart from Wednesday morning, where Miss Harriman will take RE and Jigsaw lessons. Our class TA is Mrs Wadey every morning and Mr Haywood every afternoon. Reading books will be changed every Wednesday and reading records will be checked, so please make sure your child is reading 4 times a week at home. Homework will be sent out on a Monday, this will usually be a wholesome task or a Maths task that relates to the learning that week. Children will need to wear their PE kit into school every Thursday for PE with Mr Smith. If this changes Mr Smith will be in touch straight away.
This year we are continuing our curriculum focus with three new main topics: Global Neighbours (Terms 1&2), Mysteries (Terms 3&4) and Fascinate (Terms 5&6).
We will be reading a range of great books this year including: Beegu, Lost and Found, Jack and the Beanstalk, Supertato and The Dot, etc. We will focus on our 5 star grammar points for Year 1 initially and then move forward with our SPAG lessons into expanding sentences and conjunctions. Any questions surrounding this please ask Mr Smith, I am very happy to go through any learning with parents.
In Maths, our initial work will be around place value, addition and subtraction. This will be followed by multiplication and division, shape, space and measure. We will even be looking at Mr Smith’s favourite, fractions! So we are all looking forward to fractions pizza day. The children will be practising recapping on learning through daily Solve 6 tasks.
We look forward to a busy yet exciting year ahead!
