Welcome to Year 1
The children have made an amazing start in our Year 1 class this year. In English we have painted a life size baby blue whale and we are practicing writing in super sentences with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
We have been learning about instructions and how they use bossy verbs to tell us what to do. So far we have used instructions to help us make twirling paper helicopters and bouncy card snakes.
In maths we have been sorting and counting. We have used cars, counters, cubes and even smarties!
In geography we explored some mapping skills by creating faces from a picture using the PE equipment. We had to work in teams and share everyone’s ideas.
This term we will be going on lots of local walks to learn about the local area around the school. We have already used Google Earth to find our houses and to have a virtual walk to school. We will visit the local ducks, walk under a huge railway bridge and interview the local shop keepers.
We have lots of fantastic opportunities planned for the children to learn, care and enjoy their time in Year 1. Please feel free to look at our curriculum overview which will explain what your child will be learning throughout each term.
We will be doing PE on a Wednesday and a Friday so please make sure your child has their PE kit in school on these days. Please listen to your child read as often as possible and when you have done so please write in their reading records so that we can change their books on a Monday. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to speak to me.
