Reception: Mrs Wilton & Mrs Ithier

Welcome to Reception

Welcome to Reception! We have tremendous fun learning through play- both indoors and outdoors.  Every day is exciting and filled with new experiences.  Every small step is a great achievement and we are encouraged to develop our independence.

We are thrilled with our newly developed space which includes a tree house with climbing wall, a walk-in sandpit, huge mud kitchen, a music and water wall, planters, play shed, trike area and construction site. We are having a great time exploring our giant space. We enjoy using the outdoor area for number, language and many more activities.

We love to explore our many areas including our new conservatory with construction area, the book corner, craft table, funky fingers table, small world play area, maths and writing areas, shop, construction area and home corner.

We now follow the Unlocking Letters and Sounds program for the learning of phonics and to support the learning of reading. We regularly send reading books and phonic cards home to challenge the children.  We also provide lots of information to parents on how to support their child learning their phonics at home.  The children always impress us by their memory of the phonic sounds, songs and actions.

We use ICT to support our learning, we have iPad phonics, maths and finger control games that we use regularly. We also use remote control cars, programmable toys, tape recorders, the interactive whiteboard and laptops.

In Reception we all have our very own Year 6 “Buddy”. Our buddies look after us all year. We read to our buddy, play with them at special playtimes and sometimes eat lunch together. It’s so lovely to have this special relationship.

Our school grounds are lovely and the children enjoy seeing how they change throughout the year. The children also have the chance to explore the local area by going for walks in the local community, visiting the local shops, the library and the church.

We encourage a good relationship with parents and by working together we can learn, adapt and enhance how we develop each child’s unique strengths as they start their school journey here at St.Michael’s CE Primary school. We keep you up to date with your child’s progress and send home regular photos of your child’s learning on Tapestry our online learning platform.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
