St Michael’s Blog

Children’s University

Yesterday we had a presentation by the Children’s University.  Di Stone told us all about the events and opportunities of Children’s University.  St Michael’s will become an administrator for CU so all children can register here in school.

CU is an exciting way recognising all the learning and activities your children do outside school. It also fosters a love of learning and helps aspirations of learning and achievement in later life.

After school events and clubs can be put towards the final accreditation of 30 hours learning outside school.  Also all kinds of events and venues are accredited with CU including Bristol Zoo the SS Great Britain, some sports tuition at Virgin Sports Centre in Bradley Stoke,  the summer reading challenge at the local library and many more.  For a more complete list look on the website.

After your children have achieved the 30 hours and this has been recorded on the website you and your child can attend an award ceremony where a special scroll is awarded.  The children also get to wear a cap and gown just like real university!  This year the event was held in summer at Bristol Cathedral.

To register there is a cost of £5.00 for a passport and you receive a login and username for the year.  Some accredited events and venues will be free, (for example, most after school clubs in school) and  some will incur a cost ( for example visiting Bristol Zoo).  If you qualify for Free school meals or Pupil Premium the school will pay for your passport.

Have a look on line at or follow the links in Our Community.  Do a search for your area and click on Bristol Children’s University.  There are many other learning destinations and we are shortly to become one.

Following dates to find out more;
