At St Michael’s Primary School, our Religion and Worldviews curriculum enables children to explore different religious and non-religious beliefs, values and traditions, helping them to better understand the world around them.

As a Church school, our curriculum has been developed using a combination of the South Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus and Understanding Christianity resources. We aim to develop children’s knowledge and understanding of Christianity as a diverse global living faith as well as exploring other world faiths and non-religious worldviews. We help children to recognise the varied views, traditions and practices within and across religions and non-religious worldviews and encourage them to be sensitive to the beliefs of others.

We want children to become thoughtful, reflective learners who approach religion and worldviews with curiosity, openness and respect. Through our curriculum, children develop the knowledge and disciplinary skills to think like theologians, social scientists and philosophers, enabling them to investigate beliefs, explore how worldviews shape people's lives and consider life's big questions with increasing confidence. We encourage pupils to reflect on their own ideas while valuing and respecting the beliefs and perspectives of others.

We have strong links with St Michael’s Church and throughout the year our children, staff and families walk to the church to celebrate key events including Harvest festival, Christingle Carol Service, Easter and End of Year 6 Service. Leaders from St Michael’s church regularly visit the school to lead collective worship, and at Christmas and Easter times lead workshops with classes to deepen children’s understanding of these main Christian festivals. Father Malcolm, the Trust Chaplain, visits school to deliver theme days that link to our curriculum, allowing further exploration and focus on key ideas.

Ultimately, our curriculum seeks to nurture reflective, respectful and well-informed children who are rooted in our strong Christian school values and have the understanding and confidence to engage positively with a diverse and changing world.

Parents and Carers do have the right to withdraw their child from all, or part, of the RW curriculum.
