Year 6: Mrs Wright

Welcome to Year 6

A very warm welcome to Year 6. It’s been lovely inviting the children back into the classroom where we have been able to lift many of the restrictions, whilst endeavouring to make the children feel safe, happy and above all, ready to learn.
This year, we are continuing our curriculum focus starting off with Global Neighbours. This follows a Geography path way of learning. We will be exploring the big question: ‘What is the future of the Amazon?’ We welcome any extra information the children research at home to share with us and their peers.
Our class have already started, and appear excited, with their homework booklets. All homework will be given out on a Wednesday and returned the following Monday, when the children will be tested on their spellings. Please encourage your child to find a quiet space to complete their homework, practise their spellings and read. We collect in our reading diaries daily and on Mondays the children are rewarded with extra play when they have completed 4 or more reads during the previous week.
We will be reading lots of great books this year including: The Alchemist, Holes, The Saga of Biorn and The Viewer. These books will be used to inspire our writing. The children have already been inspired after reading The Alchemist.
In maths, our initial work is based on place value. We will then be revising the 4 rules of maths, fractions and position and direction. The children will be practising their timetables – please encourage your child to play on Times Table Rock Stars at home. They are welcome to challenge us to a battle! We will be setting challenges on Times Tables Rock Stars and a certificate will awarded to a child during praise service at the end of the week.
I’m looking forward to the year ahead watching the children develop their personal and social skills and sharing their progress with you. Thank you for your support with our learning so far and your continued support in the future.
Kind Regards
Mrs Wright
